You can make global text and other attribute changes by selecting a graph, or pressing Ctrl+A to select everything on a page, then using the Format menu commands. You can use any existing page as a template by simply copying it from the notebook, and then pasting it to a new notebook or section. The data in the new worksheet will be automatically plotted by all graphs on the copied page. You can save time by determining the data format you would like to use before entering data into the worksheet. It's usually easier to cut and paste the data into the SigmaPlot worksheet instead of importing it from files. You can save yourself time when creating graphs by selecting (highlighting) your data before starting the Graph Wizard. You can to minimize or limit the amount of data plotted by selecting only a block to plot rather than entire columns. You can use more than one worksheet per notebook to organize your data. You can use Transpose Paste to flip row-wise data into columns or vice versa. You can open most files instead of importing. Use Import only if you need to place data into an existing worksheet, or want to limit the amount of data coming in. You can make it easier to import ASCII or text data by removing unneeded data and weird characters first using a text or Word processor. You can save time by specifying a region to import. That way you only importing the data you need. The rest just uses up time. And don’t forget! It’s often easier to simply cut and paste the data into the SigmaPlot worksheet. You can use column titles to better organize data. Press F9 to open the Column and Row dialog box which you can use to promote columns and rows to column and row titles. You can press Tab and Shift+Tab while entering columns titles to move from one column to another. But don't press Enter after typing the title! That SigmaPlot’s strength is plotting raw data. Don’t spend a lot of time manipulating, transforming, and summarizing data unnecessarily. You can save time by choosing the graph type and style on the Graph Toolbar. You’ll bypass the first two panels in the Graph Wizard. From inside the Graph Wizard, you can remove worksheet columns that you don’t want to graph by double-clicking the selected column in the Selected Columns list. It’s much faster than clicking the selected column once and pressing Delete. When selecting columns of data using the Graph Wizard, you can click the actual worksheet column itself rather than selecting a column from the drop-down list. When using the Graph Properties box, you don’t ever have to click Apply before clicking OK. Use Apply to view the changes while leaving the Graph Properties dialog box open. You can save time by turning on the Graph Page snap-to grids when moving things around. You can create your own graph layouts and use them in Arrange Graphs by editing the Layouts.jnt file. You can copy or drag and drop graph one page to another. You can drag and drop a graph directly into another application that supports OLE Automation or onto the Windows Desktop. You can modify the Normal page in the Template.jnt file to change the default attributes for new pages. You can use any page as a template for new pages by adding them to Template.jnt, or by specifying your own template source on the System tab of the Options dialog box. You can use the Stop toolbar button to both halt or suspend redrawing. You can create custom schemes in worksheet columns by using the Insert menu Graphic Cells command. You can place any custom color into a worksheet cell by typing @RGB(r,g,b) where r, g, an b are the red, green, and blue color components. You can save lots of time by using right click menus for the worksheet, graph page, and graphs. You can view which data is plotted by clicking a curve or symbol, then looking at the highlighted worksheet cells. You can add a plot to an existing graph by first clicking the graph, then clicking the Graph Wizard toolbar button. That SigmaPlot comes equipped with an extensive Macro Library which you can use to automate many processes. To view SigmaPlot's example macros, press Alt+F8. You can prevent graphs from "randomly" shifting in Microsoft Word 97 and 2000 by setting the Wrapping style in the Object or Picture Layout tab to be In line with text. Before pasting a graph into PowerPoint, you may want to set both the page and graph background colors to "None." To set the page background, right-click the page and choose Page Setup. To change the graph background, use the Grids and Planes options in Graph Properties. You can right-click the Symbols control in Graph Properties to change the text symbol and text properties, and change starting symbol in a scheme. You can right-click Color controls in Graph Properties to change the current Custom Color or the starting color in a scheme. You can right-click Line and Pattern controls in Graph Properties to change the starting type in a scheme. You can use values in a worksheet column to specify symbol sizes, bar widths, error bar directions, tick values, and almost all other graph properties. You can remove a single legend entry by double-clicking that legend, clicking the Symbol... button, and unchecking the Show Legend option. You can use VB and VBA to control SigmaPlot and operate it from VB programs, MS Office, MATLAB, or any other program that lets you access an automation interface. You should add you own graphs to the Graph Style Gallery and remove any graphs you aren't interested in. You can add graphs by simply dragging them onto the gallery. Bar chart bars set to Uniform width are only as wide as the narrowest bar. Maximum bar widths are determined by the distance to the next bar. Note that you can change bar widths from Uniform to Variable. You can also change alignment of bars with respect to their X or Y positions. To dock or undock a toolbar or palette (like the Graph Style Gallery) you can double-click the title area. To keep a toolbar or palette (like the Graph Style Gallery) from docking, hold down the Control key while moving the toolbar. To perform a full save, which may reduce file size, use Save As rather than Save.
