LECTURE 10
goals and outline
lecture title
Electric and Magnetic Forces and Fields: Coulomb, Ampere, and Faraday
lecture goals
- Learn about two more 1/r² forces, electricity and magnetism.
- Learn who Coulomb, Ampere, and Faraday were.
- Learn that electricity comes from charges at rest.
- Learn that magnetism comes from moving electric charges, called electric currents.
- Learn what a dipole is.
- Define fields as lines of force, learn the rules for field lines, and see demonstrations of electric and magnetic dipole fields.
- Learn the difference between action at a distance as a way to transmit forces, and causal forces.
outline of lecture
1. Coulomb's Electric Force
2. Ampere's Magnetic Force
3. Faraday's Field, or Lines of Force
