LECTURE 13
questions before lecture
think about these
- We've covered some of the wave vocabulary in Lec 12. Three we'll do more in this lecture are interference, standing waves, and resonance. What is your current understanding of those three terms?
- About how fast does sound travel? Hint: think of the lightning/thunder rule for learning how far away lightning struck.
- Would you guess that sound is a transverse or longitudinal wave? Hint: think of speaking and how the sound wave travels through the air.
- Why is it possible to "print" a voice the way you take a fingerprint? What makes every person's voice unique?
- Similarly, what makes musical instruments sound distinctive?
