information on observatory

On campus, we have an observatory built in 1881, with a telescope which is still excellent for viewing the moon , planets, clusters of stars, etc. It is called the Washburn Observatory and is located at the top of Observatory Hill, across from Liz Waters dorm. It is open free to the public the first and third Wednesdays of every month.

  • UW Space Place, 262-4779. 1605 Park Street, with exhibits, lecture, hands on, for all ages. Public lectures 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. Children's workshops 2nd and 4th Saturdays.
  • Madison Astronomical Society, 238-8706.
  • Memorial High School Planetarium, 829-4053. Programs at 6:30, 7:45 pm, 3rd Wednesday through May.
