LECTURE 35
questions before lecture
think about these
- Name two temperature scales other than Fahrenheit.
- Define the zero point of all three temperature scales, and any other significant temperatures, for example, the boiling point of water.
- What you may know as a change of state is also called a change of phase, or a phase transition. Name a few phase transitions you know about. At what temperature do they happen?
- What physical properties have we learned are quantized?
- Why does electric current flowing through materials cause them to heat up, as in a toaster or lightbulb?
- What causes magnets to levitate one above the other?
(Recall we observed this in Lecture 10, with blue ring magnets on a post, sometimes floating above one another.)
