LECTURE 38
     questions before lecture

think about these

  • In what sense does everything we do, from living to using electronic devices, depend on electronic energy levels?
  • About how many atoms are in a piece of material the size of your hand?
  • Why does electric current flow in some materials but not others?
  • Have you heard of "solid state" devices? semiconductors? transistors? diodes? chips? If you have, do you have any idea why?
  • Why is Silicon Valley in California called that?
  • What does binary mean? Can you give an example to illustrate the meaning?
  • What choices do radiotherapists have of type of radiation to use for treating cancer? How do they decide which to use?
