LECTURE 41
     goals and outline

lecture title

    The Four Forces: Gauge Bosons

text pages

lecture goals

  • Learn what gauge bosons are in the quantum field theory of the four fundamental interactions (forces).
  • Learn how each interaction has one or more peculiarities which make it different from the other three interactions.
  • Learn which particles feel which interactions and what properties determine whether an interaction is felt. Learn what happens to the four interactions' couplings at high energy.
  • Understand more about the Standard Model.
  • Introduce the Higgs boson, which has a different role from the gauge bosons.

outline of lecture

    1. Gauge Bosons for Four Forces

    2. Charges, Couplings, Unified Field Theory

    3. Higgs Boson
