LECTURE 7
     goals and outline

lecture title

Three Great Laws of Motion: Newton's Dynamics

lecture goals

  • Understand the foundation of dynamics, the study of the causes of changes in motion, also called forces. This is probably the single most important concept in physics.
  • Learn Newton's three laws of motion, or laws of dynamics, or force laws.
  • Understand how momentum feeds into the three force laws, all of which can be written in terms of momentum.
  • Understand simple examples of the above, especially some fun analyses of human motion and use of forces.

outline of lecture

    1. Force Introduced

    2. Force Defined

    3. Force is a Mutual Interaction

    4. Law 2 Applied to Humans

quote

If I have seen farther than others, it has been by standing on the shoulders of giants.

-- Isaac Newton
