A PRIVATE UNIVERSE, about 20 minutes long, on reserve in the Physics Library, starts with the "Harvard exit poll," showing a few of the 23 people (graduates, faculty, alumni) asked about seasons and the moon. 21 got it wrong. Then it goes to a middle school and traces a student who is learning about seasons, etc, who retains some preconceptions even though she is very bright. Interesting to watch!

• For sunrise and sunset times and moon phases, try these web sites, particularly the 2nd and 3rd. The third one has an incredible amount of data if you follow the links and enter September, Wisconsin, the date, Madison. The fourth one is weather only, I think. They may take awhile to load.
